Guiding BTJ Grads to shape Israel’s Hi-Tech Future

For the past 16 years, Boys Town Jerusalem instructor David Cohen has been teaching high school and college students the intricacies of robotics and technology. A former hi- tech engineer, David left a successful career to prepare the next generation of leaders for Israel’s critical hi-tech arena.

BTJ’s Robotics has grown tremendously over the years

When David joined BTJ, he became the first mentor of the school’s fledgling extracurricular Robotics Team for junior high and high school students. From those early days, he helped lay the foundation for future national champion BTJ Robotics teams.

“Today, I’m assisted by former BTJ Robotics Team captain Shay Neuhaus, now a Technion student,” he notes proudly. David emphasizes the vital role played by the Follender family, longtime BTJ supporters who generously created and maintain the Follender Robotics Center. “Thanks to their generosity, we are one of the few Israeli high schools equipped with multiple advanced 3D printers. These enable our students to design and fabricate the precise parts needed to build top-performing robots.”

David also teaches at CAE

David Cohen also serves as a senior instructor at BTJ’s prestigious College of Applied Engineering (CAE). “We’re proud to be one of Israel’s leading institutions granting students an Applied Engineering degree, a BA in Education, teacher certification, and electrician licensing,” he declares. “This extremely complex curriculum demands the maximum from our students.”

Robotics and CAE contribute to Israel’s hi-tech

David and his fellow BTJ instructors dedicate their summers to mastering the latest advancements in electronics and robotics. “We’re deeply committed to giving students every possible advantage,” he stresses. “After a full school day, our Robotics Team members work late into the night programming, building, and refining their sophisticated robots. Our CAE graduates go on to serve in elite, topnotch IDF technological units and make significant contributions to Israel’s hi-tech industry. We can all take pride in their remarkable accomplishments!”
