My Bar Mitzvah is just a few months aways now, and I’d like to hit the ground running with a good deed. Because I’ll be turning 13 years old, I decided to run 13 miles (well, 13.1, actually) — a Half Marathon– to raise money for Boys Town Jerusalem. It’s a residential school that shapes disadvantaged boys into young men with limitless futures.

My run will be in Delray Beach, Florida on December 31, 2019. When I started training at the end of September, I could barely go half a mile without running out of steam, but recently I tackled 7 miles without stopping for a breather (see picture). I’ve learned a lot during my training process already, like it’s not a good idea to eat 4 slices of pizza moments before heading out for a run, that someone in my neighborhood is searching for their beloved, “docile” pet boa constrictor, and that I can accomplish something I didn’t think was possible if I put my mind (and legs) to the task.

Please consider joining me in my challenge. Don’t worry. . . you don’t have to run the 13 miles! But if you could sponsor my run (or show up to cheer me on), I’d be very grateful, and I’m confident the students at Boys Town will share that attitude. My parents have committed to match all donated funds, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,300. I’m looking forward to visiting the students on their campus when I travel to Israel in April.
