Giving Ami Strength

Ami*, age 14, was born optimistic. This Boys Town Jerusalem student’s positive nature seemed unbeatable, until he came face-to-face with the tragedy of his mother’s lethal cancer. Today, the school is at Ami’s side through the painful difficulties that he and his family face each day.

Ami’s studies weakened as the situation got worse

“Last year, when Ami entered eighth grade, his mother’s condition began deteriorating. As his anxiety increased, the young boy grew much weaker in his studies,” BTJ Junior High School Principal Rabbi Yehudah Rosencrantz recalled. “At the same time, the trauma of the ongoing war nearly paralyzed him with fear. Ami’s father was soon forced to quit his job to be at his wife’s side, which plunged the family into poverty. Once the school became aware of the situation, we immediately launched intensive efforts to help.”

Thanks to supporters, Ami is getting the help he needs

Thanks to the generosity of Boys Town Jerusalem supporters around the globe, the school has now granted Ami a full scholarship, as well as waived payment for all after-school activities. In addition, BTJ is now providing clothing for this student in need, plus sending home extra food. As his teachers work closely to give Ami greatly-needed tutoring, he is now managing to keep up with his schoolwork. His classmates are there for him as well. “Ami has been a good friend from the start,” the principal noted. “These boys are doing their very best to help him through such extremely difficult times.” Sadly, Ami’s mother’s condition continues to deteriorate, Rabbi Rosencrantz notes. “For now and in future, we are here to aid Ami in any way possible. We all fervently pray for his mother’s good health, and for Ami to be strong.”
