BTJ ROBOT TAKES 1ST PRIZE IN JERUSALEM MEET
Just before the close of the 2022 school year, Boys Town Jerusalem’s 8th Grade FLL Robotics Team became champions.
The off-season competition was the perfect opportunity
Competing in the 2022 Off Season FLL (FIRST Lego League) Jerusalem meet, the Boys Town teammates seized the opportunity to hone their programming and mechanical skills to build a better robot. Victoriously, the BTJ robot’s performance outscored the competing teams to clinch First Place.
The BTJ FLL team is led by previous members
The BTJ FLL team, composed of seventh and eighth graders, is voluntarily, diligently mentored by 11th grader Shay Neuhaus. “I was on the school’s FLL team for three years, and will soon begin my third year on the advanced FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) team—this time as captain,” he notes proudly. “I know the excitement, knowledge and friendship that a Robotics team can give. I want to help younger kids have the best experience possible.”
Winning was a great boost to the team
Shay carefully prepared the FLL teams for the national contest that took place earlier this year. “Competition was stiff, and the first match is always the hardest for a new team. We were quite proud that they placed fifth out of some 60 teams,” he said. “Just now, the Off Season competition in Jerusalem was a perfect opportunity for the boys to refine the robot’s construction and to polish their own skills in its operation.
“Winning the top score was a great boost to the team,” notes their mentor with pride. “They turned into champs!”
